16th MDF Classical Ballet Presentation:
Ballet Minnesota will present the premiere of the classic ballet 'Don Quixote", restaged by Cheryl Rist. Guest performers include Oksana Konobeyeva (formerly Bolshoi and American Ballet Theater) in the lead role of Kitri and Dmitriy Tuboltsev (formerly prinicpal with the Bolshoi Ballet) in the lead role of the barber. Kirill Bak (graduate of the Kirov Ballet) will perform the role of the matador and Collette Illarde (a leading twin cities flamenco dancers) will dance the flamenco lead. Other roles will be danced by company members of Ballet Minnesota. The sketch at left is of Don Quixote by Pablo Picasso.

Choreographer Profile: Risa Cohen
Besides training in Berlin, Germany, with internationally renowned circus artists, Risa studied with aerial acrobat, Juliana Neves, from Cirque du Soleil. She has performed and taught dance including aerial, ballet and modern in the Twin Cities for the past eight years. Her dance performances have received several grants and awards, including a Metropolitan Regional Arts Council Grant and selected three times to take part in Choreographers' Evening at the Walker Art Center. Risa is an aerial instructor at Circus Juventas, a youth performing arts circus school in Saint Paul. Risa Cohen intends to present her work with Circus Juventas this summer at Minnesota's Fringe Festival. For more information visit ww.risacohen.com.

FUEGO Flamenco is the partnership of dancer Colette Marie Illarde and guitarist Scott Mateo Davies. They are active as flamenco performers, educators and guest artists. Their mission is to ìinspire the soul and ignite the heart with the spirit of flamenco.
Artistic Director Profile: Collette Illarde
2003 was a busy year. It saw Mateo accompanying the legendary Spanish Gypsy flamenco dancer Manolete in four concerts at the North Shore Center for Performing Arts in Chicago. Colette and Mateo performed at the Old Town School of Folk Music (Chicago) with the Spanish group ìTaller de Compasî. Colette was a guest dancer with Zorongo Flamenco. In October, they performed with famed Iranian singer, Sattar.
Colette was chosen to present an original work at the Walker Art Centerís ì2003 Choreographers Evening.î Mateoís second solo recording ìCaravana Flamenca, a Flamenco Journeyî was released with a concert at the Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis.
